2009: this year I will
This year I will start again
The lessons I learnt in 2008 will be forgotten.
I will stride out into the world
with bold challenges
but if anyone looks back at me I will scarper
I will mumble some deep meaning words to someone special
who will pat my arm
and ask what the time is
and if I know that Tesco's is now open 24 hours
When I am fervent
explaining how this universe
has created matter that can think about itself
ears will be closed
I will be offered tea and cake
I will scurry away in confusion, into solitude
I will fall in love with poets and singers
weep over songs and stories
dream of the curve of a cheek
the fall of her hair across her face
the whiteness of her neck
as she turns and smiles at me
This year I will hope for miracles
I will deliberately forget that no miracles have happened in the past years
This year I will live
and make the same mistakes again
